DILG-AKLAN: A DRUG-FREE WORKPLACE

The Department of the Interior and Local Government – Aklan Provincial Office (DILG-Aklan) has been declared as a Drug-Free Workplace on July 22, 2024, an undertaking in observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT).

DILG-Aklan Provincial Director Dino A. Ponsaran, CESE declared DILG-Aklan as the first Drug-Free Provincial Office in Region VI after satisfying the requirements set by the Dangerous Drugs Board and Civil Service Commission. A comprehensive orientation on the conduct and importance of a drug-free workplace was first discussed by PDEA-Aklan. Then, all thirty-eight (38) employees of DILG-Aklan volunteered to undergo a random drug testing administered by Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital personnel headed by Dr. Cornelio V. Cuachon, Jr., Chief of Hospital II. The whole process of collecting to testing of specimens have been witnessed by PDEA-Aklan which ensured the credibility of the results. Moreover, DILG-Aklan has institutionalized its drug-free work place policy through the issuance of a Provincial Memorandum Circular 2024-02 dated May 23, 2024.

The event was DILG-Aklan’s share of support to IDADAIT 2024 with the theme: “The evidence is clear: Invest in Prevention” , which acknowledges that effective drug policies must be anchored in science research, full respect of human rights, compassion, and a deep understanding of the social, economic, and health implications of drug abuse.
